'Down Home Girl' from the Philippines | September 2026
For some reason, the Philippines 60's vinyl production was flourishing and many exclusive couplings, labels designs and oddities occured.
Recently unearthed, 'Down Home Girl' coupled with 'You Can't Catch Me' [London F.760031] from 1964 is a perfect example of this trend.
Either track was never issued as a single worldwide, and both could only be found on Spanish EPs, as well as on the Australian EP 'Down The Road A-piece' for 'You Can't Catch Me'.
Issued on black and silver labels, this was the last number in a series of singles counting 'Carol' / 'Now I've Got A Witness' [F.760028], 'Route 66' / 'Walking The Dog' [F.760029] and 'Under The Boardwalk' / 'Down The Road Apiece' [F.760030] prior to 'Satisfaction' [F.760032] and 'The Last Time' in between which strangely had two different numbers [F.12104 & SF.90008].
This distinctive label design would disappear in 1966 for mere black labels.
This single is probably one of the rarest from this period, although none are easy to find in this country. To be noticed too, the quasi systematic absence of Philly London company sleeves, but these exist.
