French 7" discography / The Universal years [2008+]
In July 2008, the Rolling Stones signed with Universal Music which would control their whole back catalogue.
From then on, apart from a few exceptions, GZ in Czech Republic would become the main pressing plant for the whole of Europe.
Such provenance would sometimes be discreetly stated by an extra sticker at the back of records sealing, but most often would remain occulted - probably for marketing reasons -
and a manufacturing note would only read 'made in the EU'.
Yet a close look at the matrix number system used by the Czech plant would not lie.
Although a real Czech discography could then be argued, the complete list of Czech 7" pressings was necessary.
Records pressed by GZ for worldwide or European distribution can be found at this Czech page,
yet records pressed by GZ for an exclusive distribution in a specific country belong to such country's discography.
Here are the ones for France.
Note: the Abkco '7" Singles 1963-1966' box set released in 2022 was pressed in France, and can be found in its own section.
2009' remastered versions of 'Angie' and 'Start Me Up' were exclusively released as one-sided 7" singles in France by Virgin France Music / Universal
and distributed through Fnac stores on Oct. 20, 2023 [the worldwide release date for the
album 'Hackney Diamonds'].
Such operation was followed by another French-only release via Rolling Stone Magazine on Dec. 6, 2023, offering an exclusive limited 7" PS release
in either black, white, or orange vinyl of 'Like A Rolling Stone' c/w 'You Got Me Rocking', both tracks live from the Olympia show in Paris from 1995.
The tracks were taken from the triple LP set 'Paris, Olympia 1995' out a month before, and exclusive to France as well.
