Belgium Belgian 7" discography / Decca singles

Decca Belgium issued a lot of singles for such a little country, including 6 promo pressings on black & white labels - but the production process was rather cheap. Except for the first record - distributed into company sleeve, all stock copies until 'Little Queenie' [105/26.268-Y] in 1971 came out in picture covers of the fold-out type - a thin piece of paper printed on one side and fold in two - as it was also the case in Holland, South Africa, or Japan. Some of them would bear a 'DN code' on one side as a discreet way to date their printing ['DN' followed by a figure whom the last digit is the year, preceeded by the number of the month - eg '105' for October 1965, or '46' for April 1966].

For economic reasons, not only fronts and backs are often the same there, but these covers made systematically use of two colours only to save on the number of films needed into the CMYK printing process.
Also, there won't be much typographic research as from 'Satisfaction' [23.634] to 'Little Queenie' the way the band name is written will be the same for as much as 13 covers [for singles only].
This said, the number of releases and their variations definitely show the enthusiasm of Belgians for the Rolling Stones!

The first single 'I Wanna Be Your Man' / 'Stoned' [23.493] from March 1964 comes in a Belgian company sleeve and is extremely rare.

The Rolling Stones - Not Fade Away - Decca 23.514 • Belgium discography: Decca singles'Not Fade Away' [23.514], the first picture cover by the band, is also nearly impossible to find.

'Carol' / 'I Just Wanna Make Love To You' [23.522] is an early unusual combination one could find in Finland, or on the Italian EP for 'Tell Me'. It has a rare and unique PS as well, back an front cover swaping their titles and band name colors.

'It's All Over Now' [23.529] has a blue beam on one side, white on the other, using a classic 1964 picture of the band [also used for the single 'Tell Me' / 'Come On' in Holland].

The Rolling Stones - It's All Over Now - Decca 23.529 • Belgium discography: Decca singlesThe existence of - promo? - plain labels for 'Tell Me' [23.536] indicates that more of the kind may exist. Backed with 'Route 66' - as in Greece - this coupling will be reissued in the Golden Hit Parade series in Belgium and France.

Two different back covers exist for 'Time Is On My Side' / 'Congratulations' [23.554]: one is a typical German back, the other a Dutch one, both promoting the back catalogue of the band in these countries.

'Off The Hook' [23.566] was the A-side of 'Little Red Rooster' here [as the first Spanish single] for a unique art sleeve.

'The Last Time' [23.598] PS used the same shot than the French jukebox edition of 'Satisfaction' and lists 'Play With Fire' first.

In 1965, the green 'Satisfaction' [23.634] cover could host three types of labels: a French import, then labels of type I and II as Decca Belgium was changing their logo.

These two labels types were still to be seen for the next single 'Get Off Of My Cloud' [LU 26.019], respectively in a pink - rare - and a red PS. And to make it simple, this coupling was also released with Belgian labels bearing the UK export number F.22265 in a Dutch cover.

The Rolling Stones - Decca 26.037 - extra strip promoting the March 27th, 1966, Brussels show at the 'Palais des Sports' at 3:00 pm • Belgium discography: Decca singlesNo less than three different PS were made for '19th Nervous Breakdown' [LU 26.037] the next year, the first of which revamping the photo used for 'Carol' and titling 'As Tears Go By' only, initially coming out with an extra b&w strip promoting the March 27th, 1966, Brussels show at the Palais des Sports. The second artwork, issued in March, could also sport this promo strip and is almost as rare as 'Not Fade Away'. A few of these latter sleeves were also used in Congo to house a Congolese pressing. The 3rd 'flowers shirt' cover was issued a month later and is a little easier to find.

The Rolling Stones - Mother's Little Helper - Decca 26.069 • Belgium discography: Decca singlesUnique designs were made for the covers of 'Mother's Little Helper' [LU 26.069] and 'Paint It, Black' [26.062]. 'Have You Seen Your Mother...' [LU 26.086] picked up the back cover of the US or French PS while 'Street Fighting Man' [26.190] is the yellow version of the blue Danish 'Jumpin' Jack Flash'.

The same picture than the one chosen for the 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' [26.180] cover was used a few month after this latter for a unique and now hard-to-find 'best of' compilation 'Satisfaction' / 'Tell Me' [26.208].

The Rolling Stones - I Don't Know Why - Decca 105/26.455-Y • Belgium discography: Decca singlesTwo different labels were made for 'Honky Tonk Women' [F.12952] which was also distributed into the Danish export PS. The Belgian cover with its 5 member heads is exclusive but mistakenly Bill Wyman appears twice while Keith Richards is missing!

From 'Sad Day' [105/26.382-Y] onwards, picture covers are standard, no more fold-outs.

'Sympathy For The Devil' [105/26.401-Y] has a unique cover, like its German and Dutch neighbours.

'Out Of Time' [HP 86509] in 1975 - a very rare release - is distributed into a French imported cover only.

At last, two late Decca 'Golden Oldies' volumes [#19 & #57] are issued by the mid-70's into cheap covers. The first one misspells 'Honky Tonk Woman' on B-side and actually contains a live version of the track.
